Dahn Yoga meditation - The types of yoga postures

The very art of yoga has survived generations and is considered a timeless aid in bringing health to the body. Yoga has been a practice that has been used by Asian communities for over centuries, it is especially associated with Indians. The very name ‘yoga’ is associated with unity or oneness. This is essential in meaning that yoga brings about unity and coordination of the different organs of the body. And evidently a functioning healthy body is what we all aspire.

The benefits of yoga are countless. Yoga is used to massage all of the body organs. Since yoga is associated with various positions, different body organs are exercised without even knowing it. It is said that yoga is among the very few practices that is able to benefit the body as a whole.

Secondly, yoga is used to detoxify the body and rid it of harmful material. It does this by gently stretching and increasing flexibility of organs while increasing the blood flow to them. This increased amount of nutrients flowing to different joints and organs aids in the body flushing out harmful toxins. Accumulated toxins increase fatigue, slow down the body’s ability to fight disease causing organisms and make the body generally weak. By getting rid of them, there will be an overall feeling of wellness and increased flow of positive energy. Additionally, yoga is known to bring together the mind and the body in a unity that has seen many accomplish extraordinary physical feats. Yoga works hand in hand with meditation as both bring about harmony in the body. They enable both the mind and body to work in conjunction with one another.

Yoga is practiced by many and takes many forms. Yoga postures are basic and have variations depending on the alteration of the fundamental ones. The core positions of yoga are the lotus, mountain, balance posture, cobra, backstretch, bow, simple chest, plough, simple triangle, simple spinal twist, leg clasp, shoulder stand, simple fish, simple locust, deep relaxation, cobra and backward bend.

Each yoga posture has its own benefit. Take for example the lotus position brings balance and harmony, the mountain position is the basis for a good standing posture, the backstretch increases the backs flexibility, the cobra tightens the abdominal and buttock muscles, the simple chest strengthens the back and arms, the simple triangle aids in trimming the waistline, the simple spinal twist increases flexibility of the spine, the plough supplies the internal organs with blood, the shoulder stand stimulates the thyroid gland, the simple locust strengthens the back and buttocks, deep relaxation invigorates the body after strenuous activity.

Yoga postures may vary but all in all yoga is a must do for anyone wanting that health that comes from an intertwined mind and body.
