Depression – When is it Beyond the Normal Threshold?

More often than not, most people engage in routine activities that are not what their spirit feels content with. This is most common for career people. You may be engaged in a certain career or job just because it is the best available job for you. As you keep forcing yourself to go to work, you may just realize that you are not happy with time, and theta your productivity also dips. Similarly, if you did not really plan to get married to your spouse, and may be you were actually tricked into the marriage, then you will experience such prolonged moments of low moods, also called depression.
Whereas depression is not a desirable condition, it is a natural bodily reaction and may even be useful for your survival. When you are feeling low in emotions and even contemplating suicide, it is time to review your lifestyle and check if you are engaged in what is not good for you. It is nature’s way of protecting you from continuing to be involved in what may affect you and others.
It is therefore important for everyone, whether you are already nursing depression or not, to know the tale tell signs of depression.
The most common sign of depression is the continuous sad feeling also referred to as feeling blue. This may be caused by an event such as grieving of loss and may continue for several days and months. When it gets prolonged to beyond a few days, then it is time to see a physician or a counselor.
If you experience unexplained crying spells, then you could have passed the normal threshold of depression and you may need support. This is more common among women than men. While crying is actually one method my which depression can be relieved, when it continuous for a long period, then it may perpetuate depression to the extent of being a clinical depression.
Another sign of depression is the indifference to activities or pleasure. When depression exceeds the normal threshold, the individual may lose interest even in events that initially provided them with greatest source of pleasure or gratification. If your colleague or neighbour reports such a feeling, then you need to advice them to seek services of a professional counsellor or physician.
Most depressed people will significantly increase or decrease appetite. The individual will therefore become overweight or underweight within a very short time. Such a symptom would indicate depression and needs urgent professional care and support.
However, professional services that prevent or provide support are too expensive and may not be paid for by your health insurer. It is therefore necessary to consider alternative medicine such as Dahn yoga which has been found to be effective and cheap if not free. The individual would also be able to gain support from the Dahn yoga community members as is their practice. .
